Kindergarten Multiage Program [ages 4.9-6] [4 day option for all children]
The Kindergarten and Grades curriculum are merged with the principles of holistic, progressive early childhood education and with the VA Standards of Learning (SOLs). After completing the early childhood program at Sunrise Learning Center, children are prepared to transition to new school situations with confidence.
The Kindergarten program day has rhythm and balance, with a healthy mixture of active and quiet activities that are designed to provide children with K-1st grade readiness skills upon completion of the program. The program is differentiated to accommodate children at different levels of readiness.
This is a 4 full day program, which involves students in all specialty classes, as well as a gradual
introduction to the academic and social skills necessary to make the transition to
public or private school grades. Activities include:
-
Storytelling, puppet and marionette plays,
-
Singing, circle games and movement,
-
Painting, drawing and modeling,
-
Baking and cooking that integrates science, literacy and numeracy activities,
-
Outdoor play and gardening work,
-
Festival and seasonal celebrations and daily rhythms,
-
Early literacy and numeracy activities and
-
Early subject area introduction through integrated thematic instruction and project-based learning & assessment.
For Fall 2020, a Grades 1/2 & Grade 3, 4-Day Program is offered for children 5.8-9 years of age.
Multiage placements are based on a child's individual learning profile on a case by case basis as determined by the Directors and teachers in consultation with parents. We find the best possible "fit" for your children so that each may learn & grow with confidence.
